A new feature by Microsoft called Immersive Reader has now been deployed in our Canvas instance. I'm absolutely thrilled that we are able to provide this to you and your students. Let me share.
What is Immersive Reader?
The Immersive Reader tool enables learners, regardless of age or ability with easy to use features that reduce visual crowding, highlight text break words into syllables, read text aloud and provide visual references. Once you enable this feature your in course, students will be able to select the button to read the items of text on any Canvas page. With features like Dictation and Read Aloud, students can hear their writing read aloud providing them essential feedback to edit their work and clearly communicate their ideas to others.
How to Enable Immersive Reader?
In your course, go to the SETTINGS option (bottom left, navigation menu). Then, select FEATURE OPTIONS from the top of the menu. Look for the Immersive Reader tool and then use the green checkbox to turn on this feature.
Once enabled, every course within Canvas will display an Immersive Reader button. Users can click the button to view the page using the immersive reader, which offers advanced learning features.
