In my short time living in Illinois, I've been reaching out to neighboring colleges and speaking to their Online Learning departments. I love to collaborate and learn about what they are doing with online courses and how they maintain quality. One hot topic this past year with online learning has been how to maintain quality with tremendous growth. There are many models for quality assurance but I've always been partial to Quality Matters (QM). It was originally established as a FIPSE grant in Maryland and I've always had a special place for grant recipients. I love the rubric and what it stands for when talking about online quality. Dr. Evan Brown at Joliet Community College also uses Quality Matters and I asked him if he would have a conversation with me about the direction of Online Learning and where the quality went. He agreed, here's the interview -
The Alternative Delivery Certification uses a Quality Assurance rubric to evaluate the online quality of the DESIGN of an online/hybrid course. You can view that rubric here, based on Quality Matters. What are your thoughts related to Quality in an online course?
Take care,
Anna
