Alternative Delivery Cohort Opportunities

Friends,

In preparation for Summer 2020 and Fall 2020, several opportunities to participate in the Alternative Delivery Course are provided. If you are not familiar with the ADC course, the course was designed to show instructional design methodologies, assessment techniques, instructor presence and an opportunity for you to design an online class, allowing you to apply what you have learned. Typically, the ADC course has been offered over a 16-week period that is offered online. However, in response to COVID the need for the ADC course has become even more important than before. Because of that, I have designed a week-long ADC cohort that meets from 8:00 - 4:30, five days a week. Rigorous? Yes. Doable? Yes.

There are four opportunities to complete the ADC cohort:

  • 8-week virtual option that begins May 18th
  • 5 Saturday sessions (all Saturday's in May)
  • May  18-22 (meet 8-4:30 via Zoom)
  • May  25-29 (meet 8-4:30 via Zoom)
This weekend, we had our first Saturday cohort and had 14 in attendance! We had some special guests who came to help us including Dr. Wayne Bass and Zach Petrea. We had great discussions on UDL and instructor presence. We also explored different instructional theories including SAM, ADDIE and Backwards Design. In addition, Dr. VanProoyen was our guest on learning outcomes and using taxonomies that are meaning, measurable and manageable.

I'm honored to be hosting these cohorts and invite you to talk to your Dean if you are interested in pursuing one of the accelerated options. We still have some room in Cohort 3 which begins May 25th.

Last, I discovered this great decision tree you can use when deciding what types of assessment to use in your course and wanted to share:

You can find this on Creative Commons or on Instructional Designer, Laura Lohman, website.  I thought some of you may find this decision tree helpful as we are working on alternative assessments.

Have a great week!

Anna
