Copying your course

The semester is almost here and we've gotten a lot of questions in our office about how to copy your course from Canvas shell to Canvas shell as everyone is getting ready for the fall semester.

To start, make sure you are in the course you want to copy the content to. This most often is a blank shell.

From there, go to Settings, located in the lower left-hand corner.

From Settings, select "Import Course Content" from the right-hand menu.

Once you are here, select, "Copy a Canvas Cours" from the drop-down menu

In the "Search for a course" field, you can start typing the name of the course you want to copy into the course you are in. You will only be able to access the courses you have access to.

Once you have the desired course in the box, you can then select, "All Content" or "Select specific content." If you want all of the content from the course to copy over, select "All Content." If you want only specific items, like a specific module or quiz, select "Select specific content."

Once you have made your Content selection, click the blue "Import" button.

It will take a minute for the course copy to happen, so it will have a queued status until the import process begins. Once it says "Completed" your course has been copied over.

IF you had selected "Select specific content," you will still click import, but then you would need to select the content.

Click the "Select Content" button. From there, it will open up your course, and you can select the specific content you would like to copy over. Once chosen, click the blue "Select Content" button again and Canvas will copy over only the content you have chosen.

I hope this helps you copy over your content easier and faster. Looking forward to seeing you all in the coming weeks!
