In developing a high-impact learning scenario, it’s important to not only engage students through active learning but choose technology that can be flexible and easily adaptable. Choosing a technology that can be easy to learn, yet creates a meaningful experience for the student. While you can create learning experiences for students through creating your own VR apps, your students can also create VR apps for summative projects that align with your course outcomes. Not only can VR apps be created, but you can also live stream events using 360, allowing your students to join with a headset, available for checkout through the TLC.
Years ago, I worked with Dr. Joyce Theirer, a historian at Emporia State University, where we live-streamed reenactments that she created for her students. You can read more about that experience, here. I used a product called InstaVR, which is similar to RoundMe, allowing you to create virtual tours using 360 cameras. It was all very intuitive and created an opportunity for students to be immersed in their learning, with their instructor, in a new methodology. That project resulted in another opportunity at Wayne State University in Wayne, Nebraska. Working with the same historian and an organization called Ride Into History, we were able to create a kids camp where students participated around the world through the Ricoh Theta camera. It was a remarkable event with over 150 students participating in more than 21 states. Local libraries provided headsets to students while we live-streamed the event at Wayne State. I’ll never forget that experience and the impact it made on the students we served.
The TLC provides multiple opportunities to meet you and your
students where you are. We can provide flexible options that allow for the
student to choose how they want to demonstrate mastery of your course outcomes.
Likewise, we have various micro-credentials that students can take during your
course to help prepare them to use the technology. Students who complete these
credentials will earn a digital
badge through Credly, our digital badging enterprise system through
Heartland Community College.
Bring your class through the TLC for a virtual or
face-to-face tour, we can share the various technologies and let them get some
hands-on experience with the equipment. Schedule a tour by connecting with one
