Films On Demand provides thousands of documentaries, television shows, and independent films for all HCC users to watch. The streaming video platform has producers such as Films for the Humanities and Sciences, PBS, A&E, History, ABCNews, BBC, NBC News, Shopware, Biography, National Geographic and others that can be incorporated into Canvas course online lesson plans and content. In addition to the ease of access, there is no need to obtain copyright clearance to use any of the content offered from Films On Demand.
Embed Films On Demand Videos into Canvas
It is really easy to embed a Films On Demand video into Canvas! Just click on the icon in the Rich Content Editor toolbar, select your film, then click the embed button.
Steps to embed a Films On Demand video
- Add a video into a discussion, assignment, page, anywhere you use the Rich Content Editor in Canvas.
- In the Rich Content Editor toolbar, click the ‘V’ picklist of More External Tools and then click on the 'Films On Demand' icon.
- In the Films On Demand popup window, enter keywords or a phrase and click search.
- Scroll through the results until you find a video you would like to embed. Click the 'Preview' link to review the video and when you have found the video you would like to use, click the 'Embed' button located to the right of the 'Preview' link.
- Then click the appropriate Embed size and the video is now embedded in to your Canvas page. Note that while you are editing, the video is not visible. To view the video, finish editing the page and then click the Save button at the bottom. If you prefer to use a URL link instead, you can copy the URL by selecting the Record URL from the picklist. Then click the ‘copy’ button then go back and paste the URL to a hyperlink or paste the actual URL in the content of the assignment.
